I capture the essence of a show from concept to opening night.

Through quick sketches and painting done on site, I record the process of developing a dance or theater performance, from the initial idea to the opening night. I depict choreographers, dancers, actors, musicians, composers, costume designers, set designers and the backstage elements and interactions that contribute to the show.

My aim is to foster an appreciation for all the elements of a performance that an audience may not see. I sketch the decisions made in rehearsals, the challenges of blocking and choreographing for particular spaces and performers, and all the other detailed work that goes into crafting a major theatrical production and what makes a great dancer. During performances, I sit in the audience and sketch and paint what I see on stage. By viewing rehearsal sketches and performance paintings side-by-side, an audience can see how the whole show has grown, changed, and come together.
